How to: Regain access to a myNEU or email account

The process for regaining access to your accounts varies based on the reason you lost access: left the university, connection to myNEU or the internet, or power or network outage.


To regain access if you left the university:

Once you leave the university, all of your accounts are disabled, with the following exceptions:

  • If you are a student who has completed your course of study, your retain access to myNEU with a special alumni status
  • If you are a faculty/staff member who meets the eligibility requirements upon retirement, you have the option to retain your northeastern.edu email.
  • If you are a faculty/staff member who has left the university, you will retain access to payroll information via myNEU until the next tax deadline. You will retain your email account for 30 days. However no new email will be delivered until your employment is reinstated.

To regain access a faculty/staff member must be rehired either as a full-time, part-time or sponsored employee.

NOTE: Any email you may have had previously is available for 30 days after you leave Northeastern; no new email is delivered to your account. If you submit a request for a new account within 30 days, that account must have the same biographical information as the previous account to ensure a match. Any files you may have had are no longer available immediately after leaving and there is no way to retrieve them.

To regain access if there was a problem connecting to myNEU or the Internet:

Once the connection to the internet or the myNEU portal is reestablished, you should regain access to your accounts.

To regain access if there was a power or network outage:

Once power or network connectivity is restored, you should regain access to your files and accounts.
